Anethos technologies
Similarly to the way our brain functions, most of our technologies are based on non-local and atemporal principles. As a result, they enable feats unmatched anywhere in the galaxy. Our technologies consume very little energy. We travel between stars at superluminal speeds. We have mastered the production of infinite energy.
We are also capable of storing all the data that exists on planet Earth in a space as small as the head of a pin. Our data-processing systems operate at instantaneous speeds, and the miniaturization of every technological building block has reached the subatomic scale, allowing us to integrate numerous complex artificial systems into a single bacterial cell.
This potential has enabled us to eradicate all diseases affecting Anethos bodies. Long ago, pharmaceutical companies developed artificial nano-entities, of which a single syringe can contain billions. This made it possible to achieve targeted healing and flawless disease prevention. Today, these nanomachines circulate within the body of every Anethos and safeguard their health. More than that, they are able to reproduce by drawing on the nutrients absorbed by the body and can cross the placenta between mother and child so that the infant’s vital signs are monitored even before birth. This treatment is called Myrium, because the first vaccines used only ten thousand nanomachines per injection—a “myriad” meaning ten thousand—a number that has since been vastly surpassed.
The fields of psychology and neurology also embraced this technology. Researchers realized that it was possible to act on any region of the brain in order to heal injuries or prevent disease, but also to induce specific sensations in a patient. Typically, individuals suffering from phobias, anxiety, or depression finally gained access to an effective treatment.
Soon, it became possible to map the entire brain with atomic-scale resolution and then to control, independently and in both read and write modes, every single neuron. This rapidly opened the door to a new kind of technology: virtual universes.
Today, Anethos brains contain as many neurons as nanomachines controlling the various perceived streams of information. They can smell when there is no odor, touch what cannot be grasped, hear what emits no sound, taste when there is no flavor, and see what is not before their eyes. At will, they can immerse themselves in artificial universes that exist only on data servers. Anethos thus travel through imaginary worlds for entertainment as well as for work. The video-game industry quickly seized this golden opportunity and created vast virtual universes in which Anethos live parallel lives through characters whose every trait they have invented. Virtual universes are now an integral part of our daily existence. They are as familiar to us as a light bulb is to a human.
When we arrived on Earth and discovered the necessity of taking human biological imperatives into account (see the shared Anethos/Human history), our ancestors found themselves facing an insurmountable wall. Respecting the six minimal needs seemed impossible, and human flesh appeared destined to remain of mediocre quality forever. Until the day the company Happy Human came up with the idea of injecting nanomachines into farmed humans and controlling their brains in order to immerse them in a virtual universe resembling Earth before the arrival of the Anéthos. It was an absolute success. Since then, humans are no longer stressed by our presence, their living conditions have greatly improved, and they are entirely free. As a result, human meat has increased tenfold in quality while preserving human well-being.
Without a shadow of a doubt, our technologies are the most advanced in the galaxy—and probably in the universe.
